Man held over murder 40 years ago

A man in his 70s has been arrested in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old girl more than 40 years ago.
Kim Roberts went missing from her home in Stepney, east London, on 1 March 1964.

Her body was discovered three days later in Watts Wood, Purfleet, Essex, on 4 March 1964.

The girl had been sexually assaulted and a post mortem examination showed she had been strangled.

An Essex Police spokesman said a man was arrested at his home in south Essex on Thursday morning, and is being questioned at a police station in the county.
